The Tennessee Volunteers just got a big boost to the secondary for the 2022 season. Safety Trevon Flowers just announced via his Twitter account that he will be returning to Tennessee for another season.

Flowers totaled 82 tackles this season, adding 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions and three passes defended. He has 170 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions, seven passes defended and one forced fumble in his four-year career at Tennessee. Now, he has one more season to build upon those impressive totals.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for allowing me to play the game I love,” Flowers said in a statement. “Making the decision to become a Tennessee Vol in 2018 was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. There have been highs and lows, but I wouldn’t trade being a VFL for anything!

“The 2021 season has definitely been one to remember. My brothers and I have changed the culture tremendously. Even though we might not have ended the way we wanted, I couldn’t ask for a better group of guys. Thanks to my brothers, I’ve had some individual success this year on and off the field. I’ve not only grown as a player, but as a man as well.

“However, I feel I have much more to show in Orange and White. Therefore, I’ve decided to return for the 2022 season. Run that back!”

Flowers plays a big role on Tennessee’s team

Flowers is a former three star recruit according to the On3 Consensus rankings, which is a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He held multiple offers in addition to the Volunteers, including Clemson, Illinois, Western Kentucky, Appalachian State and others.

Flowers’ numbers show that he makes a tremendous impact while on the field for Tennessee. His 82 tackles rank third on the team behind linebackers Jeremy Banks and Aaron Beasley. His two interceptions also rank second on the team, trailing Jaylen McCollough.

But Flowers has an important role off the field as well as a veteran player. He is part of Tennessee’s leadership council, and now he gets to bring that experience and leadership into his fifth year with the program.
