Tennessee running back Tiyon Evans could not be stopped Saturday on his way to a 92-yard touchdown run. The score was one of three Evans had on the afternoon against Missouri — all of which came in the first quarter.

“When we first called that play, I was reading through it,” Evans said. “As soon as I had my mesh, I looked up to the field and it was just straight green grass. My offensive line had been playing at a high level all night. All that is just praise to them. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t have had the night we had tonight.”

Evans led the Volunteers with 156 yards rushing on 15 carries. The team totaled 458 yards on the ground for an average of 7.8 yards per carry. Missouri trailed 45-10 at halftime and fired its defensive line coach following this contest.

The No. 1 JUCO running back in the 2021 class, Evans credits his own team’s effort over a lack of talent from the Tigers.

“I wouldn’t say it was easy,” he said. “We were just locked in and on the same page. Nothing is ever easy.”

It was his second 100-yard rushing game of the season. He also eclipsed that mark in the opening game against Bowling Green. Although the 92-yard touchdown is third-longest in Tennessee history, Evans said it isn’t his longest. He broke off on a 98-yard run in high school.

After losing to Florida in Week 4, Josh Heupel claimed his first SEC victory as the Tennessee coach. Prior to this season, he spent three years as the coach of UCF and directed the Knights to a 31-10 record during that span.

The Volunteers will look to improve to 2-1 in SEC play when they take on South Carolina at noon ET on Saturday. Will Tiyon Evans break off for another touchdown run in that game?
