Texas A&M is without star wide receiver Evan Stewart against Ole Miss. He was noticeably absent from the lineup to begin the game — and now we know why.

He is dealing with a lower leg injury, according to ESPN sideline reporter Katie George. He underwent pregame warmups as usual but was deemed unfit to compete after being evaluated and was shown on the broadcast on the sideline looking on in street clothes.

On the season, Stewart has hauled in 37 passes for 506 yards and four touchdowns during his first seven apperances of the season. The former five-star recruit has been sorely missed in the Aggies’ passing game throughout the first half.

Through two seasons, the sophomore wideout has amassed 90 receptions for 1,155 yards and counting as he has at least one more season of college football before he can live up to his potential in the NFL.

Jimbo Fisher critical of Texas A&M’s performance in first quarter vs. Ole Miss

Texas A&M is not off to a great start against Ole Miss. Head coach Jimbo Fisher was specific and critical when explaining his team’s performance when addressing ESPN sideline reporter Katie George.

“We have to be more clean on offense, stop the drive on defense. We had a big drop there on third down where we could have got some points,” Fisher said at the end of the first quarter. “There on 3rd & 7 we could have had four downs but we didn’t have anything on that. … We just need to relax and make plays. For the defense, it’s important for the defense to get a stop within the 20.”

Texas A&M would end up giving up a touchdown on that drive. Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart threw a touchdown pass on the first passing attempt in the red zone to Tre Harris.

The Aggies were able to crawl back and bring themselves within six points of the Ole Miss lead before halftime. Tune in to ESPN to catch the remainder of the SEC West matchup.

If the Aggies can escape Oxford with a victory on Saturday, they will be bowl eligible for the first time since 2021 — something most Texas A&M fans would rather move on from. Not to mention they would have a win over a top 10 team under their belt.
