Urban Meyer is happy for Oklahoma, expects Texas ‘to be right there’ in the end

Bijan Robinson might be in the NFL now, but it hasn’t been long enough for the former Texas Longhorn to lament his alma mater losing to arch-rival Oklahoma. It might never be long enough for Robinson not to feel the pain when Red River goes against his team.

In an interview on “The Dan Patrick Show” this week, Robinson shared that the loss stung. And he managed to lose a little bit with an Oklahoma alumni working for the Atlanta Falcons, his current NFL team.

“I don’t think none of my teammates went to Oklahoma. But I did make a bet with one of the guys here, David, he went to Oklahoma years ago. So he gave me this real old Oklahoma jersey that I had to wear around the facility yesterday. It was bad man. I hated it,” Robinson said.

As for the game itself, Robinson had a bad taste in his mouth because he thinks Texas was a few self-inflicted wounds away from winning the game.

Clean up the mistakes, and it would’ve been Texas’ first back-to-back wins in the series since 2008-09.

“It was definitely a tough one because I know we made some mistakes that, if we didn’t make them, we would’ve won the game. But that last drive, they went down the field, scored. I was hurt. It was a bad day for me,” Robinson said.

Some current Texas players have a bad taste in their mouths, too

Texas wideout Xavier Worthy aired his true feelings about Oklahoma linebacker Danny Stutsman and his branded shirt following the Sooners win over the Longhorns. And Worthy let his feelings out on Instagram this week.

Reposting an ESPN Instagram post that featured Stutsman and Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables wearing the shirts, Worthy added his own commentary. The T-shirts show Stutsman smoking a cigar in the locker room after the win on the front and read “Oklahoma only fears God. Texas fears Oklahoma” on the back, a line from Stutsman’s pregame speech.

Worthy thinks the Texas rivals are overblowing the Red River Showdown win.

“You would think mfs just won the natty,” Worthy wrote with a pair of laughing emojis.

The Sooners topped the Longhorns, 34-30, on a last-second touchdown pass, keeping Oklahoma undefeated and handing Texas its first loss of 2023.

And while a national title is far from being decided, a win over ones most bitter rival — especially when it ends an undefeated season and keeps ones own going — is usually a worthwhile reason to take a victory lap or two.
