Texas is in a place they have not been in a long time, facing off against Miami in the Elite Eight on Sunday. A trip to Houston for the Final Four is on the line, as interim head coach Rodney Terry continues his magical run. However, they may have to run onto the court without star center Dylan Disu.

A foot injury may prevent Disu from playing, with Terry providing the latest update on Saturday. He said the training staff is working to get Disu in good enough health to play. For now, the official status via Terry is “day-to-day.”

“Again, it’s day-to-day,” Terry said. “Dylan obviously worked really hard to get to this point of the season right now. We’ve got the best trainer in the country in Warren, and Warren has done a great job all year long. He’ll continue to work with him every single day.”

Disu only played two minutes against Xavier, not being able to record any statistics. He was coming off the backs of a career-best night, having 28 points and 10 rebounds against Penn State in the Round of 32.

Rodney Terry, Texas have experience playing without top player

This is not the first time Texas has played without a top player in a high-pressure situation. Timmy Allen did not play the entire Big 12 Tournament, something the Longhorns wound up winning. Terry has preached a “next man up” mentality for the program heading into the Miami matchup.

“We went through the Big 12 Tournament without Timmy Allen, a guy that had become a real focal point of our offense down the stretch in Big 12 play,” Terry said. “Next man up had to step in and do the job for us.”

“No different type of mentality we’ll have going into tomorrow’s contest against Miami, next man up, and that will be by committee. It could be Brock (Cunningham). It could be obviously C.B., Christian Bishop, played really well for us. Timmy Allen had to play a little more inside for us as well.

“I always say to our guys, we’re all we need, we’re all we got. You know what I mean? We’ll find somebody ready to go, and we’ll band together like brothers, and we’ll go out and compete against a really, really good Miami team.”

Part of what has Texas in the position they are in is because of its roster depth. Yes, losing Disu is going to play a major role in the game on Sunday. However, Terry will have a few guys ready to step up on the biggest stage.
