Three-star defensive lineman Melvin Hills III of Lafayette (LA) Christian Academy announced his commitment to Texas Wednesday afternoon.

The 6-foot-4, 270 pounder chose the Longhorns over LSU, Auburn, and Ole Miss.

Hills on why he chose Texas

“Everything,” Hills said. “I really wanted to commit after I met coach Bo and coach Sark. They really showed they were interested and they were honest. The coaches showed they were really about family.  When I visited I talked to the players and they were telling me about their experience and why they committed. Plus, they have a good amount of boot babies that’s thriving at Texas and I feel I can be the next best thing over there. Coach Bo will make me a 1st round draft pick and I highly believe that.”

Relationship with coaching staff + their plan for him

“Coach Sark and coach Bo have been the two coaches I talk to the most. I always talk to them. Our bond is strong and they plan on using me all over the dline because of my versatility.”

Hills ranks as the No. 599 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 58 defensive lineman and the No. 18 player in the state of Louisiana.

The Bayou State defensive lineman joins coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns’ top 20 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by four-star running back Jerrick Gibson, four-star safety Jordan Johnson-Rubell, and others.

He currently does not have an On3 NIL Valuation publicly listed. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
