Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers entered the transfer portal on Friday night, sending social media into a frenzy. According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo, the Texas Longhorns, the Texas A&M Aggies, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are seen as possible destinations for the former On3 Consensus No. 1 overall player.

The Longhorns and Ewers have always been connected, with the quarterback one time committed to Tom Herman’s program. Even before enrolling at Ohio State, Texas was ferociously trying to get him to flip. Now, with Ewers in the transfer portal, the same push will come out of Austin.

This time, current players have gotten involved on Twitter. Freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy sent a tweet directly to Ewers saying “Ohhh hey there.” Running back Keilan Robinson was a bit more subtle, just saying “Hi.”

Robinson and Worthy are some of the most explosive players the Longhorns have on the roster. Playing with a quarterback such as Ewers would only make them an even bigger threat.

Even some of Texas’ top recruits got in on the action. Spearman (TX) Spearman wide receiver Brenen Thompson and Houston (TX) Klein Cain running back Jaydon Blue both sent tweets towards the quarterback after he entered the transfer portal.

Ewers was originally a member of the 2022 class before reclassifying to the 2021 class. According to Thamel, wherever he ends up, he will attempt to bring some of the top talent from the state with him.

“Wherever Ewers decides to go, he’s expected to attempt to lure some talent with him, per a source,” Thamel said via a tweet on Friday night. “Ewers has connections with a lot of top players in Texas in the class of 2022, his original high school class.”

With the early signing period less than two weeks away, a decision would have to come from Ewers quickly. Texas has shown interest in the quarterback already with these tweets, but other programs will fight hard for his services as well.
