The Texas Longhorns are getting hot at the right time. Now, as fifth-year forward Dylan Disu explained following the win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys the energy around the Longhorns team is excellent right now.

In particular, Disu described how Texas has found a way to play well, particularly on defense, which has been a huge boost to the team’s energy in recent games.

“We feel like we’re starting to figure out how to play,” Dylan Disu said. “What we have to do on the defensive end of the floor in order to have success in the game overall. I think three out of the last four games, we’ve stepped our game up on defense and that’s led to success.”

Texas has now won two games in a row after dropping a tough one on the road at Kansas. With that, Texas has moved back to .500 in the incredibly competitive Big 12 with an 8-8 conference record. Now, with two games remaining, the Longhorns are going to look to stay hot going into the conference tournament.

For his part, Dylan Disu has been one of the biggest reasons for both Texas’ recent success and the good energy around the team. A fifth-year player, Disu is in his third season at Texas after playing two years at Vanderbilt. This season, he’s averaging 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, including games where he put up 21 and 17 points in the Longhorns’ last two wins.

Now, Texas will look to keep the good times going with a difficult road trip to Baylor where the Longhorns will need to rely on their veteran leaders. After that, Texas closes the season out against rival Oklahoma.

Texas teammates make the case for Dylan Disu as Big 12 Player of the Year

Dylan Disu’s teammates, Chendall Weaver and Brock Cunningham, made it clear how highly they think about his play this season, arguing that he should be made the Big 12 Player of the Year.

“He’s a great leader,” Weaver said. “I’m a young guy. He always coaches me, coaches me up, telling me what to do.”

Cunningham added to that, praising Disu’s defensive ability, which doesn’t always show up in a stat sheet.

“His defensive prowess is also something that we rely on,” Cunningham said. “Not only can he go score 20 on any given night but he protects the rim, changes shots, has good hands. Just an all-around player.”
