Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian is completely flipping around the roster heading into Year Two. Part of the process sees a lot of players Tom Herman recruiting transfer out of the program.

On Wednesday, one of the highest-rated recruits the Longhorns landed while Herman was the head coach, BJ Foster, officially announced his transfer to Sam Houston State. He has one more season of eligibility remaining and will spend it with the FCS powerhouse.

“BJ is a tremendous get for us,” Sam Houston State head coach KC Keeler said. “He is a proven playmaker at the FBS level and has played and started in a lot of big ball games. We are excited that he will be playing his final season of college football as a Bearkat.”

According to the On3 transfer rankings, Foster was the No. 5 safety available in the portal. On a national level, he ranked at 61, proving to be a huge get for the Bearkats.

Foster was a five-star prospect, according to the On3 Consensus, coming out of high school. He was the top safety in the 2018 recruiting class and the No. 1 player from the Lone Star state. On the national level, Foster was the No. 12 player in the country and held offers from the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas.

During his time in Austin, Foster played in 43 games for the Longhorns with 27 starts. He started in 11 games this past season, earning All-Big 12 honorable mention. He will enter the Sam Houston State program as one of the most experienced players in college football.

Foster not only safety to transfer from Texas Longhorns

Former Texas Longhorns safety Tyler Owens has finally decided on what school he will call home next season. Owens entered the transfer portal in October after experiencing almost no playing time with the Longhorns this season. The 6-foot-2 junior out of Plano (Texas) played sparingly in just two games for Texas, against the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Rice Owls. And next year Owens will suit up for one of those two schools.

On Tuesday night, the Texas Tech Red Raiders announced that Owens has committed to playing in Lubbock for the 2022 season. The move was announced courtesy of the Red Raiders Twitter account, welcoming the junior back home to East Texas with this tweet.

2021 was not the only year in which Owens struggled to get on the field for the Longhorns.
