Schertz (Texas) Smithson Valley four-star wide receiver Freddie Dubose Jr. has committed to the Texas Longhorns. He picked the Longhorns over TCU, Penn State, Houston, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Kansas, and UTSA.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is the No. 183 overall prospect and No. 28 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 34 player in Texas.

On3 rates Dubose Jr. higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, he is the No. 170 overall prospect, No. 30 wide receiver in the country and No. 36 player in Texas.

Dubose Jr. has visited Texas more than any other school and was back on campus June 16 for an official visit.

“UT’s practice was great,” Dubose said following a spring visit. “I loved watching all the guys compete and especially being able to see how the new wide receiver coach Jackson coaches. He really coaches his receivers, he’s very into it, a hands-on type of coach which is what I want from any coach because that’s how I can learn things faster and it mentally clicks with me as well. Loved practice itself and how they love their work. Really just the overall practice was amazing.”

Dubose Jr. is the fifth commitment in Texas’ 2024 recruiting class. The Longhorns class ranks as the No. 34 class in the country and No. 13 class in the SEC.

The Longhorns other pledges are Houston (Texas) Clear Lake four-star cornerback Hunter Moddon, Scottsdale (Ariz.) Desert Mountain four-star cornerback Santana Wilson, Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair three-star quarterback Trey Owens and Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas three-star kicker Michael Kern.

He’s entering his senior season following a junior year that came to an end early due to a torn ACL.

Dubose Jr. currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $80K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
