Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville edge rusher Justice Finkley has committed to Texas, choosing the Longhorns over Alabama and Colorado.

The combination of academics and football attracted Finkley to Texas.

“Texas plays pretty good football, and they have a medical school on campus that is brand new,” Finkley said. “Coach (Steve) Sarkisian assembled a brand new staff that had experience with the league and putting people in the league.

“I loved his drive and how motivated he was to change the program around, and I believe in what he’s trying to build. Also, Texas going to the SEC is just another plus.”

Strong bond with Texas coaching staff

“My relationships with the coaches are great,” Finkley said. “Believe it or not, I’m actually really close with Sarkisian. We talk at least 2-3 times a week and that’s the most I’ve ever talked to a head coach weekly.

“I also have a good relationship with (Pete Kwiatkowski) and Brandon Harris.”

Texas visit was eye opening

“The visit was awesome,” Finkley said. “Being in Austin was very different from Alabama. My favorite part of the visit was touring the medical center!”

The 2022 pass rusher from Alabama has yet to take in the sights and sounds of game day at Texas, but he hopes to change that soon.  He told On3 that he plans to visit around Thanksgiving.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how live the stadium will be, especially with the new renovation of the south end zone.”
