They Win If... Alabama and Texas

There is a famous saying in college football. ABC — Always. Be. ‘Crootin. Even when getting a huge win on the road against Alabama, a couple of Texas players took it to heart. One win against a top-three opponent is what they want to be the beginning of a special few seasons under head coach Steve Sarkisian.

And when attempting to do so, you are going to have to recruit against Alabama. Texas running back Keilan Robinson and freshman wide receiver Johntay Cook decided to get a head start on that, going up to the recruits in attendance at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Robinson made his feelings pretty clear, telling the current high schools where they should play their college football.

“All y’all come to Texas,” Robinson said. Cook was in the end zone with him, attempting to get some of the visitors to Austin.

Now, this is a move we have seen before after an Alabama loss. LSU players infamously did so following the 2019 matchup, led by quarterback Joe Burrow. Their words were backed up in the short term, taking care of business the rest of the way while winning the national championship.

Long-term, not so much. Ed Orgeron was fired just over two years later and LSU moved on to Brian Kelly to lead the program.

Texas likely has the same short-term goals as the Bayou Bengals but wants the bigger picture to play out in a more favorable fashion.

Keilan Robinson has been on both side of Texas and Alabama

In what seems like an infinite crossover between Alabama and Texas, Robinson is the only player currently on a roster to experience both programs. He followed Sarkisian to Austin following his hire in January 2021. Robinson was originally slated to play under Sarkisian in an Alabama uniform and did so for two seasons.

Going into Tuscaloosa and getting a win had to feel great for Robinson. Celebrating with his coaches and teammates will be a memory he has forever. But he was still looking out for the future of the Texas program, saying his piece to some of the best recruits in the country.

In what will likely wind up being a huge recruiting boost for Sarkisian, a statement was made. He will be hoping those in attendance agree and consider joining in on Texas’ 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes.
