Waco (Texas) Connally five-star cornerback Kobe Black  is one of Texas’ top in-state recruiting targets in the 2024 cycle.

He’ll be in Austin this weekend as part of Texas’ massive visit weekend, and according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), they continue to trend heavily to land him.

Following recent picks from InsideTexas.com’s Eric Nahlin and Justin Wells, along with one in April from On3 national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman, Texas holds a 91.8 percent chance of securing Black’s commitment, per the RPM.

“After talking to sources with knowledge of Black’s recruitment, much of the buzz has centered on two teams: the Sooners and the Longhorns,” Spiegelman wrote when he logged his prediction. “Brent Venables and Jay Valai have been persistent in recruiting Black and his family, and with his older brother Korie Black at Oklahoma State, Norman has been a good in-between for the brothers and members of their family, who intend to be at both sons’ games.

…Texas has been able to get Black on campus quite a bit over the course of the spring and there’s a lot of buzz around the Longhorns with one of the state’s best defensive backs again.”

No other programs are currently slated to receive official visits, but he was on campus at both LSU and Oklahoma this spring, as well as Ohio State and Alabama.

Kobe Black Recruiting Profile

Black is the No. 18 overall prospect and No. 3 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 3 player in Texas.

In 2022, he racked up 337 yards rushing and six touchdowns on the ground. He also had 305 yards receiving and five touchdown grabs. He recorded 21 tackles, two interceptions and two tackles for a loss at cornerback – an impressive number, especially since teams would not throw his direction. As a sophomore, Black had 41 tackles and seven pass breakups.
