Temple (Texas) Lake Belton five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson is as close to a must-get prospect for the in-state Texas Longhorns as you’ll find in the 2024 class.

The 6-foot, 190-pounder is the No. 5 overall prospect and No. 2 wide receiver in the cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He also hails from an area of the state that has been kind to the Longhorns historically and could be in the future.

As one of the nation’s top prospects, his recruitment will be hotly contested until he signs in December. But one program has taken the lead for him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). Following a recent expert prediction, Texas now holds an 80.0 percent chance of securing Hudson’s commitment.

Texas Tech (8.8%) and Texas A&M (4.9%) trail far behind.

Longhorns have been one of his top schools for some time

Hudson told On3’s Chad Simmons on Jan. 11 that three schools — Ohio State, Texas and Texas Tech — will be included in his top schools list and broke down each one.

Ohio State: “Ohio State is always gonna have good receivers, so I feel like going to a school with other good receivers is gonna drive you even more and push you even more to be great. That competition right next to you and those guys are probably going to be wanting the same thing for you. But at the same time, you(‘ve) got a great coach that has been doing this and he knows what he’s doing. His stuff is paying off. You can see that it’s paying off. But also credit to those guys too cause they listen to the coach and invest the time and did what they were supposed to do.”

Texas: “What keeps me interested in them is it’s just Texas football. Texas football is always gonna be known for having great athletes, good football players and things like that. It’s really the culture and that’s pretty much what it is. They(‘ve) got a good coaching staff and they may have lost a few people and things like that, but I do like the staff there.”

Texas Tech: “The whole staff, it’s not just three people or two people. We got a whole group chat. Recruiting people, the coaches, the defensive coaches, like everybody is really talking to me from there. They just want me to feel good and just know (that) it doesn’t matter what kind of player you are… so that’s what I really do like about them. They don’t care about status or (any) of that stuff, they just keep it real.”

Micah Hudson On3 Scouting Summary

On3 Director of Scouting and Ranking Charles Power writes this about Hudson as a prospect:

“Dynamic playmaker that you can’t take your eyes off of when you turn on the tape. Can go up and high point the football with ease. Turns hitches, swings and screens into touchdowns. Will run over, through and around defenders with the ball in his hands. Has every tool in the bag when it comes to route running. Ran 11.54 in the 100m, 23.26 in the 200m and jumped a 21’01” long jump as a freshman. Advanced well beyond his years and is one of the best receivers in the nation, regardless of cycle.
