He took a detour at Ohio State, but there’s just something about that burnt orange — Quinn Ewers is home at Texas.

The energy is palpable as the tremendous quarterback returned to his home state, transferring from the Buckeyes to join Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns. He’s being hailed as the man who will bring Texas back to glory.

Before shouldering the weight of great expectations, Ewers penned a personal message to Longhorns fans in a piece titled Dear Longhorns in The Players Tribune.

“It’s always been my dream to be a Longhorn,” wrote Ewers. “Every Saturday for as long as I can remember, my family would be glued to the TV watching Texas play. Just the other day my mom was telling me about when I was two years old, and we watched Vince Young and the 2005 team win the Rose Bowl together. (Apparently, I had kid-size Longhorn gear and everything.) Stuff like that just reminds me how, at my core, it’s always been Texas.

“And now, 16 years and a transfer later, I’m getting a chance to create my own legacy with the Longhorns. Surreal right?”

Ewers doesn’t just have the approval of Texas faithful, but Texas legends are swooning over his potential. The highly-touted recruit earned the praise of legendary Longhorns quarterback Vince Young, but Ewers isn’t letting everything go to his head.

“I’m just trying to keep the main thing the main thing,” explained the Texas quarterback. “And for me, that’s always been football.”

Ewers: ‘It’s hard to make life-changing decisions when you’re only 17 or 18 years old.’

Continuing, Ewers harkened back that his football journey — and his love for the game — began by throwing the pigskin around the backyard with his father. Now, after many twists and turns, he’s reveling in the chance to put on for the program he holds near to his heart.

Ewers is from Southlake, Texas, which is roughly 200 miles north of Austin. He became a former Five Star Plus+ recruit and the nation’s top prospect from the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. After re-classifying from the Class of 2022, he chose Ohio State and locked up a landmark NIL deal.

According to Ewers, it was as difficult as a decision as any choosing the Buckeyes in the first place, before then returning home to Texas.

“It’s hard to make life-changing decisions when you’re only 17 or 18 years old. But this time I really just tried to block out all the noise, and focus on what I wanted for myself. It took a lot of prayer, but I’m confident in the choice I made,” explained Ewers. “If you’re looking for a messier answer, you won’t find that here.

“I enjoyed my time at Ohio State, and I look back on it as a lesson that’s pushed me to where I’m meant to be. I’m grateful for the experience.”

Additionally, the man with the golden mullet added that he has “complete trust” in Sarkisian to lead Texas to back to the top of the college football world. Having someone you complete trust in leading the program made the decision that much easier.

“I didn’t just choose to go anywhere. I chose a program I truly believe in. I chose to come home,” wrote Ewers.

“I’m prepared to give everything I’ve got to help this program get to where it needs to be.”

Finally, the former Five Star Plus+ recruit explained why things will be different at Texas with him slinging the rock as early as this season, writing, “We’re ready for this year.”

“There’s a different type of confidence in the air right now. It’s refreshing, and it’s exciting. It’s Coach Sarkisian’s second year, and everyone’s aware of the expectations. And we all know it won’t happen overnight. But we’re ready to rise to the occasion.”

As you can see, Ewers believes the Longhorns are on the rise. With that, the young quarterback is ready to ascend to greatness.

“Y’all should know I’m one of the most competitive people out there,” wrote Ewers. “Officially starting my quarterback career as a Longhorn is a dream come true, and I’m prepared to give everything I’ve got to help this program get to where it needs to be.

“It all starts now. Hook ’em.”

Remove all doubts. Quinn Ewers has the make-up to take Texas back to the top. If his on-field production matches his passion, love and drive to bring the Longhorns grandeur, Austin should prepare for a ride filled with jollification.
