Texas football BEATS LSU Tigers for No.1 Edge Colin Simmons | Longhorns recruiting news

Quinn Ewers has the luxury of throwing to a stacked wide receiving room in 2023, and he certainly won’t be taking it for granted.

As fall camp rolls on, Ewers has seen a noticeable growth in the group since the team came back together this summer. The group is meshing well from top to bottom, and it’s showing on the practice field.

“It’s cool to see how they compete against each other and how they’ve grown,” Ewers said. “For the younger guys, their wheels are spinning a little bit but I think they’re taking it in full stride. [Isaiah] Neyor is back, it’s good to have him being able to go up and grab the ball whenever. They mold together, and it’s fun to watch. They’re all becoming real friends.”

Xavier WorthyAD Mitchell and Jordan Whittington will be the main players out wide for Ewers this season.

In 2022, Worthy and Whittingham combined for 1,372 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns — nine of which were provided by Worthy. They are joined by transfer AD Mitchell, who joins the Longhorns after two seasons national championship seasons at Georgia

During his time in Athens, Mitchell caught 38 passes for 560 receiving yards and 7 receiving touchdowns. Of course, Mitchell will always live on in Georgia history as he was responsible for catching a go-ahead touchdown pass in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game to win against Alabama.

The three, on paper, seem to be the deepest trio of receivers in the Big 12 next season. On3’s Jesse Simonton ranked the group as the nation’s No. 2 wide receiving group this preseason — high praise for a very experienced trio.

“Worthy is a future 1st Round pick, while Mitchell, who transferred from Georgia this offseason, has similar upside and has been a key playmaker for the Bulldogs in multiple College Football Playoff games,” Simonton wrote. “Whittington isn’t flashy but the veteran is a reliable target who can play multiple spots.”

Texas also has backups such as Neyor, a coveted transfer addition last year missed the season with a torn ACL. Five-star freshman Johntay Cook II is also an option if numbers begin to wear thin as the season progresses.

Texas will kick off their 2023 college football campaign on Sept. 2 against Rice, but Sept. 9’s matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide will prove where the Longhorns really are at this point in the Sarkisian era.
