Texas star Dylan Disu has battled injuries all season, including during Monday’s game against Baylor. Disu played only 10 minutes against the Bears, before leaving the game and being unable to return.

Baylor went on to top Texas 93-85, despite the Longhorns getting a game-high 33 points from star guard Max Abmas.

After the game, Longhorns coach Rodney Terry provided an update on Dylan Disu and where he is at from a health standpoint.

“Dylan’s been there before. I mean, to be honest with you, we didn’t even think he was going to play today, you know,” Rodney Terry said. “So give him a lot of credit for pushing through today and trying to play in a really bad situation, in terms of his health today. But he tried to push through it and play a little bit.”

Texas struggled without Disu on the court, eventually dropping the game to fall to 19-11 (8-9).

Disu is averaging 16.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game on the season, while shooting an impressive 51.4 percent from 3-point range.

Still, Terry wasn’t looking to make excuses after the Longhorns came up short without the senior.

“We have a next man mentality. No excuses in terms of him not playing. The next guy’s ready to play. There’s an opportunity for him there,” Terry said. “So proud of what he was able to do tonight and how he tried to push through it. He’s gonna be fine. He understands what he’s playing for this time of year and you don’t get these games back. So he tried to push through it today, but it was a tough one for him today.”

As for what led to Disu leaving the game against Baylor, ESPN showed a replay of him getting his ankle stepped on by a Baylor player.

Once the whistle was blown, trainers rushed onto the court to take a look at Disu. Before too long, he was hopping on one leg and being sent back to the locker room.

Disu was originally considered a game-time decision heading into Monday night, dealing with a stomach bug. He was able to play but not to his normal amount of minutes. With 10:50 remaining in the second half, Disu had played for just 10 minutes and recorded three points.

ESPN’s Kris Budden was able to provide an update with Disu not too long after the injury occurred, with the early diagnosis being a left knee sprain.

“He is still in the locker room,” Budden said. “The athletic training staff said he’s dealing with a left knee sprain but still being evaluated. He will not play the remainder of this game.”

Texas will close out the regular season in Austin with a rivalry game against Oklahoma. A trip to Kansas City for the Big 12 Tournament will be next, where the Longhorns will enter as the defending champions. Disu played such a huge role last year, averaging 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
