Rodney Terry sends message to fans, students following Texas win vs. West Virginia

Texas dominated West Virginia 94-60 in blowout fashion Saturday at home, and it goes without saying that Longhorn fans had the Moody Center rocking all game long.

Interim head coach Rodney Terry couldn’t thank the students and fans enough for their unwavering support during a unique season for Texas. The atmosphere inside the arena helped will the Longhorns past the Mountaineers with ease, and that isn’t lost on Terry and his players.

“I’d like to thank our fans today. 11 a.m. game, incredible environment today. Our students have done an incredible job all year long and Longhorn nation coming out and getting behind this group,” Terry said postgame. “I thought in our preparation our coaches did a really nice job for this game.

“We played a really well-coached West Virginia team that has been playing really well to this point over the last five games. But again, I thought we had really good carry-over from a really good two days of practice Wednesday and Thursday. The guys brought that to the floor today and we were able to beat a team that’s playing really well.”

Four players would end the game scoring in double figures for Texas. Sir’Jabari Rice led the game with and efficient 24 points (5-6 shooting, 4-5 on 3-pointers) in just 17 minutes on the court. Starters Marcus Carr and Timmy Allen combined for 30, while freshman Arterio Morris claimed his best performance in conference play with 12 points in 21 minutes.

The win earned the Longhorns its 20th win of the season and keeps them in first place (9-3) in the Big-12 standings. Baylor and Kansas (both 8-4) trail by one game, while three more teams sit two games back. The Big-12 regular season championship is completely up for grabs heading into the final stretch of the seasoan.

Texas will have a quick turnaround as it faces off against Texas Tech on the road Monday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET live on ESPN.
