Texas may have given Alabama everything they could handle in an epic showdown on Saturday, but it came with a steep price to pay.

Along with the injury to Longhorns signal caller Quinn Ewers, some other athletes on the Texas offense left the game banged up. Specifically, Heisman hopeful running back Bijan Robinson and backup quarterback Hudson Card felt a little hurt after the game, as Steve Sarkisian pointed out in his press conference on Monday.

“Steve Sarkisian says that Quinn Ewers, D’Shawn Jamison, Hudson Card, and Bijan Robinson are all ‘day-to-day.’ Says nothing is structural, surgery driven, broken, or with damaged ligaments,” tweeted Joe Cook on Inside Texas.

Moreover, the aforementioned Ewers is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with an SC sprain, a significant injury where the sternum meets the clavicle, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. An MRI Ewers received after the Longhorn’s 20-19 loss against No. 1 Alabama confirmed the injury.

Before the unfortunate development, Ewers completed nine of his 12 passing attempts for 134 yards. Right before the hit that injured him, the Ohio State transfer was marching the Longhorns downfield into the Crimson Tide red zone to tie the game at 10.

Hudson Card would replace Ewers, though he was noticeably limping for the majority of the game. He finished the loss with 158 yards and no touchdowns and if he remains healthy will be Ewers’ replacement until he returns. As Sarkisian mentioned, Card is “day-to-day” regarding his injuries.

Nevertheless, it looks like Texas avoided an unmitigated disaster, as players like Hudson Card and Bijan Robinson likely won’t have to miss as much time as Quinn Ewers has to. The Longhorns gained a newfound respect against Alabama, and will do everything they can to ensure it sticks around.

Nick Saban on close win over Texas: ‘This was like playing an SEC game on the road’

It wasn’t always pretty, but Alabama walked away from its game against Texas with a victory on Saturday. Afterwards, Nick Saban said this won’t be the last time his team plays in an environment like the one at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium.

Saturday marked the first time Alabama and Texas played since the 2009 national championship. But the two teams will see plenty of each other in a couple years when Texas leaves the Big 12 for the SEC.

In fact, Saban said the Longhorns — and their fans — are SEC-caliber already.

“This is like playing an SEC game on the road,” Saban said. “This kind of atmosphere, this kind of team that we’re playing. That was a lot better team than people give them credit for. And they’re going to be in the SEC. If they were in the SEC right now, they’re probably in the top half of the league. This was a real test for us.”
