Texas has continued to take strides toward another top-10 recruiting class, as it has landed commitments from five-star prospects in three consecutive months.

The Longhorns now have 19 pledges and a formidable conglomerate of prospects that are set to head to Austin next year. There’s still work for Steve Sarkisian and the UT staff on the recruiting trail, however, and it might involve whipping out the spatula.

One important flip target for the Longhorns is Bryant (Ark.) native and Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star defensive lineman TJ Lindsey. The 6-foot-3, 270-pounder committed to Auburn on Aug. 12, choosing the Tigers over Texas and Miami.

Lindsey is yet to shut the door on his recruitment, however. On the latest edition of The Inside Scoop, Texas insider Gerry Hamilton broke down the latest on Texas’ flip efforts for the Auburn pledge with the calendar nearing November.

“He talked not just with D-line coach Bo Davis, he also spoke with Steve Sarkisian recently, too,” Hamilton told On3’s Josh Newberg. “So that’s a guy that’s really listening. He’s also talking to Miami. Miami’ s trying to work to get him back on campus as well, so this thing looks like the same three schools involved as when TJ Lindsey committed initially.”

Texas trying to get Lindsey back on campus

Lindsey took June official visits to all three schools. Auburn’s came first and ultimately made the biggest impression of the blue-chip lineman.

“Auburn got the first official visit, they set the bar high and I just kind of knew on that visit that, that is where I was going,” Lindsey told On3 upon his commitment. “On that weekend, Auburn made that move with me. They had been on me and I had an interest in them, but after that visit, I knew.”

With the lines of communication back open with the Longhorns, Texas is now trying to get Lindsey back in Austin for a visit this weekend when Texas takes on Kansas State in a pivotal conference matchup. Lindsey is scheduled to be back on the Plains for the Iron Bowl in November, while Miami is also doing what it can to re-insert itself in the mix.

The window for Texas to try and strike is open, but it might not be there for long.

“It’ll be interesting to see, he’s considering taking an unofficial visit this weekend for the Kansas State game. If Texas gets him on campus then I think this could get real once again,” Hamilton said. “He’s scheduled to be at the Iron Bowl in late November. If Texas is actually going to take a true run at this, they’re going to need to get him on campus before he gets back to Auburn for the Iron Bowl.

…Miami’s trying as well — which I think helps Texas, it’s not just one team coming after him, it’s two teams he’s still talking to, probably with similar messages.”
