Coaches are back out on the recruiting trail in mid-January, and the staff at Texas is no exception. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian hit the road to visit in-state Houston Hitchcock 2025 4-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson on Thursday.

Johnson is the nation’s No. 199 overall prospect and No. 23 wide receiver in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 30 recruit in Texas.

The Longhorns offered the 5-foot-11, 165-pound receiver after an impressive camp performance on June 11. Johnson will be in Austin on Saturday and is expected to visit USC for the January 27 weekend.

Texas recruiting insider Gerry Hamilton had this to say about Johnson as a prospect:

“Johnson possesses the most upside at wide receiver in Texas not named Dakorien Moore. The Hitchcock High staff believes the 6-foot-, 165-pounder could run in the 10.3’s prior to graduating high school. Quick, fast and shifty. Has elite playmaking ability in space. Also a member of the Bulldogs defending State Champion basketball team. Texas leads USC, Penn State, Texas Tech and Oregon.”

Texas’ No. 10 class in 2025

The Longhorns’ four commitments in the 2025 recruiting cycle are good enough for the 10th-best class currently in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Saraland (Ala.) top-100 quarterback K.J. Lacey headlines the group. He’s joined by Calhoun (Ga.) four-star tight end Emaree Winston, Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie four-star defensive lineman Brandon Brown and Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek three-star EDGE Anthony Williams.

“Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to play in the SEC,” Winston told On3. “The more I saw Texas, and the more I saw how they used their tight ends, I started to think more about them. I love the coaches at Texas, I like the offense Coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian) runs and the city of Austin really put Texas on top for me.”
