Texas had two key cogs limited due to injury coming out of the halftime locker room, according to ESPN’s Holly Rowe.

Center Jake Majors and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders might not even play in the final 30 minutes against Oklahoma. They were banged up and basically in emergency-only situations.

Rowe had more on the ABC broadcast.

“Two of his most important offensive players are very limited for this second half,” Rowe said. “Center Jake Majors is emergency-only usage with a left ankle injury. Ja’Tavion Sanders, their ‘do everything’ tight end, is very limited and we will not see much of him.”

Sanders managed to get in on the opening drive of the third quarter and even threw a tough block. So while he may be limited, the Texas tight end appeared to give it all he had with Texas trailing, at that point, 27-17.

Sanders had just one catch for 13 yards while the leading receiver was Gunnar Helm with three catches for 58 yards on the Longhorn end of things.

Steve Sarkisian credits Texas’ approach for Red River

Coach Steve Sarkisian noted that his team’s demeanor is a reflection of the work it has put in throughout the offseason.

“I think something that we’ve done all year, and I credit our leaders throughout the offseason, we’ve got a real business-like approach,” Sarkisian said on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday morning. “Our guys are focused on the task at hand. They’ve focused day to day. It wasn’t so emotional. It wasn’t so this is personal, this and that. It was more, ‘What do we need to do coach? How do we need to do it? Let’s go practice it and then let’s go execute it Saturday.’”

Oklahoma has won four of the last five meetings in the series, but that one loss was quite lopsided. It came last year, in Oklahoma coach Brent Venables‘ first season in charge.

Texas won that Red River Rivalry showdown 49-0. So there will be plenty of reasons for confidence beyond just the team’s work ethic.
