After an offensive explosion this weekend, the Texas Longhorns offense received some tough news about one of their wide receivers. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Troy Omeire will undergo knee surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2021 season, Steve Sarkisian announced on Thursday.

Omeire, who tore the ACL in his right knee in a non-contact injury during preseason camp in 2020, has yet to play a snap at Texas.

Back in August, Omeire was originally injured during the Longhorns’ open practice at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium. Now, his season has officially come to an end.

Moreover, Sarkisian stated that the Longhorns will do everything they can to ensure Omeire is healthy and ready for the 2022 season.

“We’ll do everything in our power to get him healthy, get him back going on the field, and get him going for the 2022 season,” Sarkisian said Thursday.

Furthermore, Omeire was a member of the Texas’ class of 2020. Back then, the previous coaching staff got Omeire to flip from his Texas A&M commitment in September of 2019. Ranked as a four-star prospect, Omeire enrolled early in January of 2020.

Continuing, Troy Omeire attended Fort Bend Austin High School in Sugar Land, Texas. There, the Longhorns star recruit caught 65 passes for 906 yards and 10 touchdowns during his senior season, adding 364 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Texas was hoping to get Omeire back to bolster their depth at wide receiver. Currently, Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington and Joshua Moore see the lion-share of targets. Additionally, Kelvontay Dixon and Marcus Washington spell the starters on occasion.

The Texas offense has been on fire recently — scoring a combined 128 points over their last two victories. This weekend, they travel to take on the TCU Horned Frogs.
