After spending a year away from his home state with the Ohio State Buckeyes, quarterback Quinn Ewers is back home and with the Texas Longhorns. Given the number of weapons he has on offense and the offensive coaching abilities of their head coach Steve Sarkisian, Ewers was named Pro Football Focus (PFF) quarterback most likely to break out in 2022. One of the Southlake, TX, product threats on the outside, wide receiver Xavier Worthy saw the prediction about his quarterback and had this to say.

One of the biggest storylines of the Texas Orange and White spring game was the quarterback competition between Ewers and Hudson Card. Both quarterbacks headed into the spring game, competing for the starting position. Fast forward to now, and it appears that Ewers is the likely candidate to start at quarterback for the Longhorns next season. And with the Longhorns adding Isaiah Neyor, Jahleel Billingsley, and Agiye Hall from the transfer portal this spring, Pro Football Focus prediction could come to flourish by the end of next season. With that being the case, it is understandable why Worthy and Longhorn fans are fired up to start the 2022 season.

Pro Football Focus names Quinn Ewers quarterback most likely to break out in 2022

The Quinn Ewers era has yet to begin for the Texas Longhorns, and the Texas native is already garnering a ton of national attention. So much so that Pro Football Focus has named Ewers the quarterback most likely to break out in 2022.

Ewers is from Southlake, Texas, which is roughly 200 miles north of Austin. He became a former Five Star Plus+ recruit and the nation’s top prospect from the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. After re-classifying from the Class of 2022, he chose Ohio State and locked up a landmark NIL deal.

Ewers sent Texas fans into a frenzy in the Longhorns’ spring game when he connected with Isaiah Neyor on a long touchdown pass. The pass was one of, if not the biggest highlight of the Longhorns’ spring game. Since he graduated from high early, Ewers had not seen live action since January 2021 in his state championship game with Southlake Carroll. He saw limited action at Ohio State last season, but only handed the ball off, not attempting a pass. Texas fans are hoping Pro Football’s prediction is spot on and Ewers can thrust the Longhorns back into the National Championship picture. Their last appearance in a national championship game was in 2010. And their last time on top of the college football world was in 2005, when Ewers was just a year old.
