Texas receiver Xavier Worthy fuels transfer portal speculation with cryptic message
Xavier Worthy is continuing to fuel the transfer portal speculation pertaining to his future on social media.
First, the Texas wide receiver scrubbed his Instagram of all Texas-related photographs. Now, he’s making cryptic posts on Twitter, causing a stir within Longhorns faithful.
“The calm before the storm,” tweeted Worthy.
Perhaps Worthy has taken a keen interest in meteorology, or the college football world is about to find out what his future looks like.
Time will tell what becomes of Xavier Worthy and whether he remains with the Longhorns, but it’s evident his mind is racing with possibilities moving forward.
Steve Sarkisian says Xavier Worthy’s best days are ahead of him
Continuing, Texas sophomore Xavier Worthy is as good of a young wide receiver as any program has in the country. He has been incredibly productive through his first two seasons with an average of 828.5 yards per year. Still, Steve Sarkisian believes more is out there for Worthy to accomplish.
Sarkisian spoke highly of Worthy during his press conference on Monday. He said he appreciates his star receiver’s effort to become the best player that he can be.
“I think the one thing about Xavier is he’s a highly competitive young man. From the moment he arrived on campus, he came to work. He came to work to earn an opportunity to play, came to work to become a starter, came to work to be the best receiver he could be. Whether that was in our conference or in the country,” said Sarkisian. “I think the guy’s got a sense of competitiveness and drive to be the best. And he works that way every day.”
In total, Worthy has put up 115 catches for 1,657 yards and 21 touchdowns through his pair of seasons. His numbers have come down from his freshman season in 2021. Still, he has led the Longhorns in receiving in 2022 with 53 catches for 676 yards and nine touchdowns.
Worthy’s fire is something that Sarkisian truly appreciates. He says he respects the fact that Worthy becomes frustrated when he doesn’t have an even better impact on the games than he already does. Pairing that with his production is what makes Sarkisian believe he’s one of the best receivers in the sport and can be an even better player in the future.
“I would much rather have a receiver that’s frustrated that he didn’t contribute more to a win than a guy who’s content of going on the field, playing, and the ball not coming his way. I think he values his ability to get open,” Sarkisian said. “It’d be hard to find the guy in his first two years of college football at the Power-Five level who’s got 21 touchdown catches. He’s off to a pretty good start but I think his best days are ahead of him.”
