Texas safety Jerrin Thompson enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Texas safety Jerrin Thompson officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Friday, On3 has learned. Last season, he racked up 38 tackles, three interceptions, and seven pass breakups. He brought home honorable mention All-Big 12 honors in 2022. That year he established career highs with 83 tackles, one interception, and seven pass breakups. His sophomore year with the Longhorns, he played in all 12 games, tallying 41 tackles, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one quarterback hurry, and three pass breakups.

Coming out of high school, Thompson was rated as a four-star prospect in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He played for Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas). His senior year, Thompson racked up 59 tackles, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one defensive touchdown as a senior. He was part of a defense that allowed just 15.2 points per game, including two shutouts that year. As a junior, he racked up 90 tackles, four tackles for loss, 15 pass breakups, a forced fumble, and an interception.
