Texas is trending to flip a blue-chip prospect from an old rival after an expert prediction was logged in favor of the Longhorns.

Texas now leads in the recruitment of Jasper (Texas) four-star linebacker Tyanthony Smith, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine — with a 52.8% chance to flip Smith. Longhorns insider Gerry Hamilton logged an expert prediction with a 75% confidence level for Texas to flip Smith from the Aggies.

Smith is set to take an official visit to Austin this weekend.

“The Longhorns continue to push for the Texas A&M commit,” Hamilton wrote. “The On3 4-star has had an official visit scheduled to Texas this weekend for about a week. There has been talk close to the Jasper High program that the visit is up in the air. Should Smith follow through with the visits plans, the Longhorns would become the team to beat.

“Smith remains scheduled to sign December 20, and be a January enrollee. “

He is the nation’s No. 393 overall prospect and No. 37 linebacker in the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Smith is also the No. 62 recruit in Texas.
