San Diego Lincoln running back Roderick Robinson picked up an offer from UCLA in February and after taking two visits to Westwood, he has committed to the Bruins.

The 6-foot-1, 223-pound four-star took a long look at Arizona, and schools like California and Oregon were in the running, but Chip Kelly’s program pulled ahead earlier this month.

“Things changed on the official visit,” Robinson told On3. “The official visit pushed UCLA to the top. My relationship with the coaching staff is unreal, the culture there is what I want to be a part of, and I felt it on the visit.”

Robinson was on his official visit from May 13-15. After getting home, sleeping on it, and letting his emotions settle, Robinson made the call.

“Two days after getting back from my visit, I let coach Barry Foster know of my decision. He was very excited about it. I got on the phone with coach Kelly and he felt the same way.

“I had to settle down a little bit after the visit, so I did that, and I still felt the same way. It was UCLA.”

The No. 19 running back in the On3 ranking has visited UCLA twice this year. He took an unofficial visit early, then an official visit a couple of weeks ago. He likes the vibe of his future home.

“It is amazing on campus. The people are great. The players feel the love. Everyone is determined, the people work hard at UCLA, and it is what I want to be a part of.”

Robinson is a believer in Kelly

Robinson feels he is going to win, and win big, as a Bruin.

“I believe in coach Kelly,” Robinson said. “He has been there. He has done that. UCLA is on the rise and we will win a Rose Bowl soon. The mindset of the players is changing, the work ethic is there, and coach Kelly is getting his players there. Big things are coming at UCLA.”

The decision was not easy for Robinson. Numerous schools gave him a lot to think about. He took the time he felt he needed and it became clear that UCLA was the school for him.

“The combination of everything UCLA has to offer makes it right for me,” Robinson said. “I have a great relationship with coach Foster and coach Kelly. I love how the coaches set the players up for success.

“It is not just success on the field, but off the field too. The academics are great and UCLA is in L.A., a great place to promote your name. There is a lot I like about the school on and off the field.”

UCLA has three commitments now and a fourth could be coming soon. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favors the Bruins for Tre Edwards, a linebacker that is set to announce his commitment Friday May 27.
