The mantra surrounding those running it back with USC for the 2023 season can be summed up in two words: unfinished business. That rings true for Trojans star linebacker Shane Lee, who announced that he will be returning to Southern Cal for one last ride.

“I’m staying,” Lee said Friday. “I just like what we’re building here. I’m comfortable here. I’m excited for what’s to come. And I want to be a part of that. I want to help build it and be a part of it. Continue what we started.”

Lee, who served as a team captain this season, led the Trojans with 75 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions and 6.5 tackles for loss despite missing one game due to injury. The ailment forced him to play several games with a cast on his hand, which didn’t affect the star linebacker’s on-field performance.

Lee, who transferred into the program from Alabama, had two years of eligibility left when he arrived on campus this past summer. As a former four-star recruit, Lee was hoping the jump to Southern Cal would have a positive impact on his NFL potential – and it has – but coming back to school is more important for the star linebacker right now.

“We talked before I came here about building something,” Lee said about making the decision to stay. “This is just a continuation of that. I really am excited. I’m happy to see the new pieces we’re going to bring in. And how we’re going to keep building and how we’re going to keep climbing.”

Lee will play in the Cotton Bowl, and is ready for one last go-around with the Trojans. He’ll be hoping to lead his team to a College Football Playoff in 2023, but until next season rolls around, his main priority is preparing for Tulane and hitting the offseason with his best foot forward.
