Savage (Minn.) Prior Lake four-star defensive lineman Jide Abasiri has committed to USC.

He pledged to the Trojans following his decommitment from Minnesota on Dec. 11.

Abasiri is the No. 516 overall prospect and No. 49 DL in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 ranks Abasiri higher than other recruiting services, as he checks in as a four-star, the No. 283 recruit and No. 29 DL in the latest On300.

The 6-foot-6, 270-pounder was committed to the in-state Golden Gophers since March, but Lincoln Riley, USC DLs coach Shaun Nua and the Trojans got Abasiri on campus for an official visit on Dec. 8. Not long after, he’s now flipped from the in-state school to the soon-to-be Big Ten program.

Trojans add to Top-20 recruiting class in 2024 cycle

Following the commitment of Abasiri, USC now has 18 pledges in its 2024 recruiting class — which ranks No. 18 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. The class also ranks No. 5 in the Big Ten.

The class contains two top-100 prospects: Los Angeles Sierra Canyon four-star wide receiver Xavier Jordan and Clearwater (Fla.) Academy International four-star interior offensive lineman Jason Zandamela. The pair are the No. 79 and No. 91 overall prospects in the cycle, respectively.

“USC has a record of getting people to the league,” Jordan told On3 upon his commitment. “Jordan Addison just got drafted No. 23 in the first round to the Vikings. Before that, Lincoln Riley coached Ceedee Lamb. He has a record of getting receivers to the league.”

Four other top-200 prospects fill out the top of the class for the Trojans: Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star cornerback Marcelles Williams, Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan four-star WR Ryan Pellum, Atlanta Washington four-star EDGE Kameryn Fountain and Hiram (Ga.) four-star tight end Walter Matthews.

“My relationship has been built ever since the new staff got here,” Williams told On3. “They love my family and my brother who’s on the team already. So I’m just always around and it just has that family feel.”

Abasiri is the first DL commit in the Trojans’ 2024 class. Other top commits for USC this cycle include: Cheshire (Conn.) Academy four-star linebacker Elijah Newby, Lake Oswego (Ore.) Lakeridge four-star TE Joey Olson, West Hills (Calif.) Sierra Canyon four-star safety Marquis Gallegos, Clarkston (Mich.) four-star LB Desman Stephens and Arlington (Texas) Martin three-star IOL Makai Saina.
