Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea provided injury updates Saturday on quarterback AJ Swann, linebacker Kane Patterson and wide receiver London Humphreys after the Commodores lost 38-21 to Missouri.

Ken Seals earned the start at quarterback as Swann has been dealing with an elbow injury for the past few weeks. Patterson was injured in the first half of Saturday’s game in Nashville and didn’t return to the game.

“AJ was available, just wasn’t able to get the reps in practice so we’ll continue to monitor that moving forward,” Lea said following the game. “Kane Patterson, we have to get him looked at and get him imaged. We’ll have an update on that early in the week.”

Swann first bruised his elbow against UNLV in Week 3 and then tried to play through the injury in Week 4 against Kentucky but it was not a good performance. He finished completing just 16 of his 40 passes for 189 yards with three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

The sophomore is completing 53.8% of his passes for 1,290 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Seals, who entering having started 16 games over the previous three seasons for the Commodores, was 20 of 31 for 259 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Patterson returned to the sidelines in the second half on crutches. He is fifth on the team in tackles with three tackles for loss and one pass breakup.

Humphries was questionable for the game with an ankle injury.

He has gotten off to a start start to his freshman season with 12 catches for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Earlier in the season, Humphries earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

“London’s battling an ankle that limited him some this week in practice,” Lea said. “This is kind of the wear and tear of the season. He’s a true freshman so he’s learning how to handle being hurt and fighting through it. But we expect him to continue that fight and hopefully he’ll be available for us next week.”

Vanderbilt is now on a four-game losing streak, which has dropped its record to 2-4. Starting quarterback Brady Cook torched the Commodores defense to the tune of 395 yards and four touchdowns. Star wide receiver Luther Burden had 11 catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

Lea’s team will travel to Gainesville, Fla., this upcoming Saturday for an SEC East matchup with Florida.
