Battle of the bigs took place this week in the Big 12, with TCU facing off against West Virginia. In the purple corner, Eddie Lampkin was hoping to continue a solid start to the season. Representing the Mountaineers, Jimmy Bell was looking to establish himself a little bit more and ultimately, won the battle.

Bell had a little extra motivation for himself, thanks to some friends who texted him prior to the game. They were telling the WVU big man that Lampkin was the best in the Big 12 and Wednesday night was going to present a tough challenge.

“I had a little motivation before the game,” Bell said. “I had people texting me, telling me he is the best big in the Big 12. I just took it personal. He’s a big guy, good player. I played him in AAU so we kind of already know each other’s game. But he’s a good player.”

Bell finished with a double-double, going for 15 points and 12 rebounds. Most importantly, West Virginia was able to get the win and snap a five-game losing streak. Lampkin only managed five points and three rebounds — an off night for sure.

“I definitely felt like I had the advantage,” Bell said. “I just used it and had a good night.”

Jimmy Bell reveals who texted him prior to TCU

According to Bell, there were “a few people” who texted him about the matchup. Sometimes, that’s all it takes to get excited about a game, especially when in the midst of a five-game losing streak. Bell was able to get the job done at home.

“I don’t pay attention to it but I kind of took it a little personal. Just because of the same size. I was kind of excited for that matchup, I was looking forward to that matchup. We came out with the win.”

Bell weighs in at 6-10, 270 pounds, while Lampkin is 6-11, 300 pounds. It was a physical matchup for sure on the block, with the former getting out of there with a victory.

You could tell he was proud of the effort and will be building some confidence heading into Saturday’s game against Texas.
