Former Wisconsin Badgers guard Lorne Bowman II announced his commitment to transfer to Oakland University on Sunday after one year in Madison. The Oakland Golden Grizzlies play less than an hour from St. Mary’s where Bowman attended prep school.

In 22 games coming off of the bench for the Badgers this season, Bowman averaged 10.4 minutes with 3.0 points and 1.1 rebounds. He shot 34.4% from the field, 40% from three-point range and 48% from the free-throw line.

A native of Detroit, Bowman committed to Wisconsin as a four-star recruit. He was the No. 119 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Oakland plays in the Horizon League. They finished the 2021-22 season with a 20-12 overall record, which included a win over Oklahoma State.

Bowman headed home

Bowman, 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, was the third Wisconsin Badger to enter the transfer portal after the season. Star guard Johnny Davis’s decision to declare for the draft added a fourth departure. He missed the last eight games of the year with an unspecified illness.

“First and foremost I want to thank God for giving me the ability to play the game of basketball at a high level,” Bowman wrote in his transfer announcement. “I want to thank coach Greg Gard, Dean Oliver, Joe Krabbenhoft and Sharif Chambliss and the entire staff for giving me the opportunity to showcase my talents. To my teammates, I will never forget you guys. To Badger Nation, I want to thank you for all the support and love you showed me and the team this season. The University of Wisconsin will always have a special place in my heart. May God bless you all!”

With the NCAA’s new transfer rules, Bowman is immediately eligible to play for Oakland in 2022-23.
