Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s Prep School three-star cornerback Omillio Agard’s first talks with Wisconsin’s coaching staff while they were still at Cincinnati. While they knew Agard wasn’t that interested in the Bearcats, they remained steadfast in their recruitment.

Once they made that move to Wisconsin, they visited Agard’s school to judge his interest. Those talks and visits paid off as Agard pledged to the Badgers over Clemson on Saturday.

“Coach (Paul) Haynes and Coach (Colin) Hitschler came to my school and really intrigued my thoughts,” Agard told On3. “They made me believe that it could be a thing and told me to come visit. I came for the official visit on June 10 and really blew me away. It was not what I thought it would be.

“When you think of Wisconsin you think of grass fields and country-ish. It was really an amazing campus though and academics are up there. Everyone up there loves Wisconsin football and everything revolves around it.”

The trip to Wisconsin came a week after Agard visited Clemson. He says that he left the Clemson visit thinking he might end up at Death Valley but wanted to keep his mind open.

Agard said that the first day at Wisconsin was great and the next day he sat down with Haynes to watch film. Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell ate with Agard’s family and those interactions proved to Haynes that he was a priority for the Badgers.

“You always want to go where you’re wanted and where you’re needed. They showed me that at Wisconsin,” said Agard, the No. 445 player in the 2024 class.

Fickell was a huge selling point for Agard

One of the main reasons that Agard knew that Madison would be his home after one visit was because of Fickell.

Since their first meeting, Agard had a great feeling about Fickell. On top of respecting the man he is off of the field, he feels like Fickell’s resume as a coach speaks for itself.

“He had a great track record at Ohio State playing there, coaching there and then going to Cincinnati for five years and now at Wisconsin,” Agard said. “He’s always developed kids who go to the NFL and that’s my main goal. I feel like Coach Fick can do that for me.

“He’s going to mature as a man and help develop me on the field with Coach Haynes and Coach Hitch. He did it as Cincinnati, did it at Ohio State, why not at Wisconsin?”
