Houston Klein Cain four-star wideout Matthew Golden is staying in his hometown for college, announcing his commitment Tuesday to Houston.

With his commitment, Golden became the top recruit in the Cougars 2022 recruiting class.

He is the No. 153 overall player in the country according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The wideout backed off his commitment to TCU when Gary Patterson parted ways with the program in early November. He was one of many players to do so.

Matthew Golden is the second big-time recruit to commit Tuesday to the Cougars. Orange (Texas) West Orange-Stark four-star offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter announced his verbal pledge earlier in the day.

Hunter is ranked as the No. 422 prospect in the country. He decommitted from Oklahoma a few weeks ago after Lincoln Riley left the program for USC.

The next highest ranked player in the class is three-star defensive lineman Quardale Patt, who is No. 745 in the On3 Consensus.
