There is a real possibility Aaron Rodgers could be traded by the Green Bay Packers this offseason, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Rodgers recently said Green Bay might not be the best place for him to play at an MVP level next season. The future Hall of Famer left the door open to play elsewhere next season, should he want to return.

Schefter reported the same when he said the Packers could ultimately make the move to suit both parties.

“This will be the third straight offseason, which Aaron Rodgers’ future is the subject of much speculation,” Schefter said. “But make no mistake, both sides are fully aware that a trade is a very real scenario this offseason for Aaron Rodgers. The Packers are expected to move on from certain players, which Aaron Rodgers probably will not like.

“The issue here will be the $110 million left on his contract and which team could afford it, but there is a real possibility that at some point this offseason, Aaron Rodgers is going to be traded.”

Rodgers finished the 2022 season with 3,695 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His 12 interceptions were the most since his first full season as a starter in 2008.

“Do I still think I can play?” Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee Show. “Of course. Of course. Can I play at a high level? Yeah, the highest. I think I can win MVP again, in the right situation.”

He led the Packers to a 9-8 record but the team did not make the playoffs after losing the final game of the season to the Detroit Lions.

Aaron Rodgers could be traded by Packers

The Packers traded star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason. When Rodgers lost his top weapon, the Packers offense took a hit this year.

Rodgers said he would take time regarding his decision, which included cigars, scotch and whale watching.

A return to football would not necessarily mean a return to the Green Bay Packers.

“If there’s a rebuild going on, I won’t be a part of it,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers then expanded on his mindset in that case.

“If they want to go younger and think Jordan (Love) is ready to go, then that might be the way they want to go,” Rodgers said. “If that’s the case and I still want to play then there’s only one option and that’s to play somewhere else.”
