Adam Schefter provides details on Steelers' quarterback situation, anticipated signing

As the NFL quickly heads toward the NFL Combine and eventually the NFL Draft, the need to establish the foundation for each franchise is readily apparent. Nowhere is that more clear than in Pittsburgh, where the Steelers are trying to get a handle on their quarterback position.
Neither Russell Wilson nor Justin Fields is currently under contract, leaving the franchise in flux for the time being.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter weighed in with the latest as the Steelers look to make a move.
“Well they’re interested in talking to both and they have an interest in bringing back one, and we’ll see which deal they’re able to hammer out here before the start of the new league year on Wednesday, March 12,” Schefter said in a SportsCenter Special on Tuesday. “But they’re already at work talking to Russell Wilson about a new deal, talking to Justin Fields about a new deal.”
It’s probably unlikely that both quarterbacks will remain with the franchise going forward, though it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility.
Whether Pittsburgh makes any other moves could have a lot to do with that.
But what is clear is that the Steelers think pretty highly of both quarterbacks. General manager Omar Khan made that clear in speaking about the quarterbacks on Tuesday.

“And I think that obviously they’ve been pretty clear that they want some continuity,” Schefter added. “They’d like to bring back one. I think each quarterback has some support within the organization. But they are working on getting one of those quarterbacks done.”
Could the Steelers bring someone in from the outside? If so, it doesn’t sound like that’s necessarily prohibitive of re-signing one of Wilson or Fields.
“Obviously they’ve inquired of Matthew Stafford, any number of teams have,” Schefter reported. “But it looks like right now Pittsburgh’s sights are set on getting one of these deals done, because as we speak I don’t believe they have a quarterback under contract at all. So you can’t head into the start of the new league year as you’re trying to build up your offense and add wide receivers without a quarterback under contract. I would expect they’ll get one of these deals done at some point relatively soon.”
