Art Rooney confirms Steelers will wait 'a little while longer' on Aaron Rodgers career decision

Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II gave an update on the team potentially signing Aaron Rodgers for the 2025 season. During the NFL owners’ meetings on Wednesday, Rooney was asked how long the Steelers would wait for Rodgers to decide on his future.
“A little while longer. I’ll say the same thing,” he said, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Rooney was referring to what he said on April 1 about Aaron Rodgers. When asked about the four-time NFL MVP, Rooney said the Steelers will wait “not forever, but a little while longer.”
The Steelers have time to wait on Rodgers, but he will need to make a decision soon. NFL teams are taking part in their offseason workouts, and Pittsburgh will have its mandatory minicamp from June 10 to June 12. It would be beneficial for the Steelers to get an answer for Rodgers so they can have the QB room set before training camp begins in late July.
Aaron Rodgers has talked to Steelers HC ‘many times’
Rodgers last talked about the Steelers when he appeared on The Pat McAfee Show in April. “Listen, this entire time I haven’t felt like I owed somebody any decision at some point,” Rodgers said. “… I’ve been upfront with them about that. If you need to move on, call me, by all means. … There’s been no deadline. And yeah, I’ve talked to Mike (Tomlin) many times.”

Rodgers was then asked if he would play for the Steelers if he decided to return to the NFL. “I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything when it comes to this decision,” he explained. “I’m not holding anybody hostage – I really want to emphasize that. … I’m just going through a lot in my personal life that has to take precedence at this point. … At the same time, I want to keep the lines of communication open.”
The Steelers need a quarterback after losing Russel Wilson and Justin Fields to free agency this offseason. They currently have three QBs on the roster – Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and Will Howard who was selected by the Steelers in the sixth round of this year’s draft.
Rodgers spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets after spending 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. In his career, Rodgers has been selected to the Pro Bowl 10 times, named to the All-Pro Team five times and led the Packers to a Super Bowl title during the 2010 season.
