Brian Gutekunst: Packers free agency centers on quarterback position

The Green Bay Packers head into the offseason with more questions than answers surrounding their veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. As the team gets ready to begin their offseason moves, Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst addressed the media on Wednesday and went over the team’s offseason priorities. But just where on the list does quarterback rating in terms of priorities for the Green Bay Packers? Well according to Gutekunst, it’s at the center of their offseason universe.
“ Yeah, I think you know obviously everything around here kind of centers around the quarterback; that’s kind of how we do things. So, it’s a big piece, it’s the domino that kind of has to fall before we go down, you know, other avenues. So, it’s important you know as we go through this and the puzzle pieces that we got to make fit. I think that’s the first one to go,” said Gutekunst.
Rodgers recently won his second straight MVP award and fourth of his career. Last year, he famously held out before ultimately reporting to the Packers under a re-structured contract. It paid off as the Packers went 13-4 before falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round.
Gutekunst on his approach with Rodgers
Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst spoke with the media on Wednesday about the upcoming offseason and the future of Aaron Rodgers. While he shot down multiple “hypothetical” questions from reporters, he did provide a glimpse into the ongoing relationship between quarterback and organization.

Coming into the 2021 season, tension were high after a tumultuous offseason between Brian Gutekunst and Aaron Rodgers which culminated in a restructured contract and promise of one more year.
“Coming into this season after everything that had happened last summer, it was difficult for both Aaron and the organization,” said Gutekunst. “But I’ve gotta give him a lot of credit with the way he came in. What he gave to our organization and the team this year was impressive. I credit a lot of that to him and the way he came in. Our relationship now… I’m very positive about it.”
