Former Alabama star Brian Robinson, Jr. was spotted at Washington Commanders practice on Wednesday. It was a first step back for the gifted running back since he survived two gunshot wounds in a failed carjacking attempt less than three weeks ago. On Thursday, Robinson posted a video of himself working through some position drills on his Instagram page and he looked really good.

Check out the footage below.

Robinson, who played at Alabama from 2017 through 2021, was a third-round selection by the Commanders in the 2022 NFL Draft. He is expected to return to game action this season, though an exact timetable has been unclear.

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera offered an update on Robinson last week

Rivera shared an update last Wednesday on the progress of Robinson as he rehabs from two bullet wounds in his leg. Following the attempted robbery and shooting, the team revealed that he could still return to play this season.

Rivera said on the radio that the former Alabama Crimson Tide star is now off crutches and that the swelling in his knee has reduced significantly.

According to DC Police, Robinson was able to wrestle a firearm away from one his two attackers before the other shot him twice. The bullets hit him in the knee area and in the glute, per the report. The police were able to identify the two suspects and recovered a weapon from the area after the attempted carjacking incident.

Robinson got surgery for the injuries and returned to the team facility at the end of August. Now, with the team nearing game one versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, he’ll be able to walk around the team without crutches until he’s ready to play again himself.

The Commanders drafted Robinson with the No. 98 overall pick in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. As a fifth-year senior in 2021, Robinson rushed for 1,343 yards and 14 touchdowns to help Alabama to the national championship game — an eventual 33-18 loss to Georgia. He also got involved in the passing game, catching 35 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns.

As Robinson is unavailable for Washington, the depth chart lists three others at running back for Week 2. The Commanders will work with Antonio GibsonJ.D. McKissic and Jonathan Williams as the former Bama back continues his recovery.
