The Dallas Cowboys saw their season come to an end on a failed quarterback run from Dak Prescott in the NFC Wild Card Round last year. This season, the plan is for Prescott to use his legs more — and it sounds like he’s learning some lessons from last year’s rushing attempts.

Prescott met the media this week and talked about the plan to run more. In 2021, he took 48 rushing attempts for 146 yards and a touchdown, but acknowledged some plays could’ve been better. That’s all part of his offseason plan to look back and learn from last season.

“Once I get inside the lines, game day, I’m just focused on whatever it takes,” Prescott said. “You go back, there’s actually a couple plays I did that and may have said that wasn’t too smart.”

Prescott also talked about what else he learned from running the ball in 2021. He said practice is essential as the offense starts to change and he starts running more.

“I think that’s all just a process of practicing that, as well,” Prescott said. “I can say that post-snap, but why didn’t I do it at that time? Why didn’t I react [to] that? Looking at that is going back in this time in this offseason and reacting that way, making myself react that way at times.

“So when I come to the game, get in those scenarios, it’s second nature. We’re not looking back saying, ‘What if,’ or if I could’ve done that. I don’t play the game with regret. It’s just about going out there and playing on my preparation.”

Mike McCarthy expects Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys to incorporate more QB run plays

This time last year, there were still questions surrounding Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Nobody was quite sure how he was going to move fresh off a season-ending ankle injury suffered in Week 5 of the 2020 season. Always known for being a more mobile quarterback, it was a serious concern for Prescott.

Now, a whole season has passed and according to Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy, there are no more concerns in that area. In fact, he believes Prescott is going to play a bigger role in offensive coordinator Kellen Moore‘s run game this year.

McCarthy said Dallas is going to incorporate more designed runs for Prescott this season now that the ankle injury is no longer a concern. He admitted they attempted to be “smart” with how Prescott was used last season, wanting him to ease back into full football speed.
