On Tuesday, NFL franchises had to finalize their roster movements in order to get down to the 53-man roster requirement. The Dallas Cowboys made it down to the magic number of 53, but it required a total of 28 moves to do so. Below is a brief outline of Dallas’s actions to complete the roster cut down by the NFL’s Tuesday deadline.

According to the NFL’s waiver wire and the Cowboys team site, the team waived a total of 25 players. Dallas also designated two players to the waived/injured list and placed one on their reserve/non-football injury list. The list of waived players by the Cowboys is as follows.

And Dallas plans on taking advantage of the roster cuts from other teams.

Dallas releases QBs Will Grier, Cooper Rush

There was never a question about the starting quarterback role for the Dallas Cowboys. Dak Prescott is locked down for the future and is expected to play at a high level on a yearly basis. If there is going to be a deep playoff run this season, Prescott will have to elevate his game.

However, throughout training camp, there was thought to be a competition for the backup role. Ben DiNucciWill Grier, and Cooper Rush were competing for just one spot. With DiNucci already being released, decisions on the other two were made on Tuesday.

According to Todd Archer of ESPN, both Grier and Rush will be cut and not make the 53-man roster, “for the time being.” Archer reports that Rush will not go through waivers, while Grier will. Both are expected back in Dallas in some form to eventually serve as the backup.
