Dallas Cowboys: Jerry Jones trolls Washington Football Team hard again

The Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Football Team rivalry is considered one of the best in the NFL. It’s apparently turning into a battle of the benches.

That’s right. The benches on the sideline.

It started when Dallas went to Washington earlier this month and paid for heated “Cowboys” benches on the sideline. When Washington headed to Dallas last week, the team did the same thing — bringing heated benches with its logo on it to a 70-degree, indoor stadium.

The Cowboys won the game 56-14 on Sunday Night Football. But what role did the benches play in that performance? If you ask Dallas owner Jerry Jones, he might keep them on the AT&T Stadium sideline forever.

“Those benches, I just assume keep them, if we can look them down out there and maybe keep them permanently,” Jones said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “We’ve had good luck with those benches.”

Sheesh.

He might be on to something. Dallas has won nine of the last 13 matchups with Washington even though Washington won both of last year’s games. The Cowboys won the Week 14 game at FedEx Field 27-20 this season, but came out firing in Week 16 to make the statement.

With the win, Dallas moved to 11-4 on the season — one game behind the Green Bay Packers for the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Washington, meanwhile, dropped to 6-9 and is dangerously close to falling out of the playoff race.

Washington Football Team responds to Cowboys, brings own benches to Dallas

The rivalry between the Washington Football Team and the Dallas Cowboys is one of the NFL’s age-old classics. Now, another chapter is being written in the history of the game — with sideline benches at the forefront.

When Dallas traveled to Washington in Week 14, the Cowboys brought their own benches. The team cited issues that befell the Seattle Seahawks when they visited Washington, but the Football Team didn’t take it lightly.

Now, Washington is continuing the pettiness — bringing their own benches as a response to Dallas.

As if the game between the two rivals needed anymore juice, Bench-gate now is at the forefront of their Sunday Night Football showdown. Evidently, Washington is hoping their benches can bring them a victory — much like they did for the Cowboys when they visited.

“In response to the Cowboys bringing custom benches to Washington for an outdoor game 2 weeks ago, WFT has brought temp-controlled benches to Dallas for tonight’s indoor game,” tweeted The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “Cowboys could choose to open doors & roof. The expected outdoor temp at kickoff: 73.”
