The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly made their final decision on quarterback Dak Prescott‘s health ahead of their matchup with the Rams. The Cowboys and Prescott had stated previously that the Rams game was a targeted return date as he continues to recover from surgery on his throwing hand. Now, according to a Tuesday report, it will be at least one more week before Prescott returns to the field.

Dak Prescott not returning for Rams game

“Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott won’t play this Sunday at Rams, person familiar with situation said. His availability is considered not realistic at this stage in recovery. Cooper Rush it is again. Will Grier the backup,” explained Dallas Morning NewsMichael Gehlken.

With Prescott continuing to be sidelined with his recovery, Dallas will look to Cooper Rush to continue his hot start as an NFL starter. Having been asked to start a game last season against the Minnesota Vikings — which he won — Rush has now posted a 4-0 record as a starter for the Cowboys.

Rush became the sixth undrafted quarterback in NFL history to win his first four starts, and is the only one to win all four starts with a passer rating of 90 or higher.

Although Dallas has made it clear that Prescott is still their starter and they are hoping to see him back on the field as early as next week against the red-hot Philadelphia Eagles — Rush has stepped up in a huge way. After beginning the season with a loss and Prescott’s injury, Dallas looked like a team that could struggle in the early season.

Since Rush took over in relief, Dallas has improved to a 3-1 record. Rush has amassed 737 passing yards and four touchdowns, while completing 60.8% of his passes and throwing zero interceptions. Additionally, his passer rating is a great 95.9, stuffing the stat sheet over three games.
