The Dallas Cowboys offensive line will look a little bit different on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Star left tackle Tyron Smith has been dealing with an ankle injury in recent weeks, and he will not play for the Cowboys.

“Cowboys standout LT Tyron Smith, who has missed the last few games dealing with an ankle injury, is not expected to play today vs the Chiefs, source said,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted early Sunday morning. “This is a big picture move, especially with the short week ahead.”

With Smith out again, The Athletic’s Jon Machota reports that Terence Steele will get his third straight start at left tackle for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys, again without Smith, will have a different look on the offensive line

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced earlier in the week that the Cowboys were making a change in the starting lineup on the offensive line. Connor McGovern will be starting at left guard in place of former starter Connor Williams, who is the most penalized player in the NFL this season.

With Smith out and Steele and McGovern joining the starting lineup, quarterback Dak Prescott will again have a different look protecting in front of him. In addition to Steele and McGovern, Tyler Biadasz (center), Zack Martin (right guard), and La’el Collins (right tackle) will start the game on the offensive line for the Cowboys.

Dallas was hoping to get Smith back this week. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said earlier in the week that if he was able to practice, his likelihood of suiting up would increase. But that will not be the case on Sunday. Jerry Jones is excited to see McGovern, a former third round draft pick out of Penn State, start for the Cowboys.

“He has really impressed us,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said of McGovern. “I think he’ll do well. He’s earned it.”
