Daniel Dye loses tire, sends it rolling down backstretch under caution ahead of Charlotte overtime

A hilarious and awkward moment for Daniel Dye. As the field was about to start NASCAR overtime, he lost a tire. You don’t see a lot of drivers lose their wheels under the caution flag, but that’s exactly what happened to the Xfinity Series driver.
It appears there was a larger issue with Daniel Dye’s Kaulig Racing Chevy than just a loose wheel. He got out of the car and ended his day early.
Now…can we finish this race? Dye ends his day in a silly moment on track.
Daniel Dye and his team won’t think this is very funny. His crew chief will now be suspended for a couple of races for losing a wheel on the track. It is a rather severe penalty, but one that NASCAR takes seriously, as loose wheels can cause a lot more problems than just extending a caution.
You hate it for the Xfinity Series rookie. He was just trying to get to the finish. To have your race end with only a couple of laps of overtime left to go is heartbreaking. Especially when you know it is going to lead to more setbacks for your team by losing out on your crew chief for the next two races.
Daniel Dye adds to end of race chaos at Charlotte
Finishing this race was important for Daniel Dye and his team. They really needed to get to the end of this one. Without the finish, they ended up six laps down and finished P32. That will cost them at least 10 positions, as 22 cars finished on the lead lap.

Dye is also on the bubble of the NASCAR Playoffs. He can’t afford to lose out on points like this. There are a lot of talented rookies in this series this season. As it stands right now, Dye is fifth among rookies but 15th overall in points. He is a few good top-10 runs from making it into that top-10 in points, but he has to finish races.
To his credit, this will be only his second DNF of the season and second finish outside of the top-20. When he finishes races, he is able to bring home a clean car and deliver a good amount of points to his Kaulig Racing team. Five top-10s on the year, Dye will look to bounce back at Nashville in a week.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series race ultimately went to William Byron. The Hendrick Motorsports driver wins his hometown race and gains a little momentum going into Sunday’s 600-mile race. As for Daniel Dye, it is on to the next one and hope for better.
