Report: Dan Quinn informs teams of plans to stay with Dallas Cowboys for 2023

According to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, the Dallas Cowboys‘ worries over the potential departure of defensive coordinator Dan Quinn are over. Quinn has reportedly informed the teams interested in his services that he is staying in Dallas, per Pelissero’s sources.

Quinn had completed a second interview with the Arizona Cardinals and had a second arranged with the Indianapolis Colts for Saturday. However, per the report, “his heart is in Dallas and he wants to win a Super Bowl there.”

Although Mike McCarthy skirted around questions about the team’s plans for offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the Dallas skipper said during his press conference on Thursday afternoon that he believed the answer on Quinn’s future would come “sooner rather than later.” Pelissero broke the news just minutes after the press conference wrapped.

Quinn has been considered among the frontrunners in the head coaching searches in Indianapolis, Denver and Arizona. He had completed one round of interviews with the Broncos and Colts.

The Denver Broncos job seemed to pique his interest last offseason, however, they opted to hire Nathaniel Hackett. With several teams after him, it seemed inevitable that Mike McCarthy would be going on a D.C. hunt.

Before coaching in Dallas, Quinn was most recently the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. He took them to the 2015 Super Bowl and lost in the infamous 28-3 collapse at the hands of Tom Brady and the Patriots. His Falcons run was all downhill after that debacle and he was eventually fired during the 2020 season.

With the Cowboys, Quinn turned the defense around rapidly. They led the league in takeaways in 2021 and 2022.
