Deion Sanders blasts 'foolish' reports on Shedeur Sanders pre-draft process

In April, quarterback Shedeur Sanders suffered an unprecedented slide in the NFL Draft, falling to the fifth round after being projected to go as early as in the top three picks. While there were several reasons for Sanders’ slide, multiple reports emerged claiming that Sanders’ pre-draft interviews went poorly with some potential suitors.
Sanders ultimately landed with the Cleveland Browns when they drafted him with the No. 144 overall pick. During an appearance on the most recent episode of the “Say What Needs To Be Said” podcast, Colorado head coach and Shedeur’s father, Deion Sanders, weighed in on the reports of his son’s pre-draft interviews.
“It did hurt. But the Bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise. There was some foolish stuff that went on, but that gave them something that they needed,” Sanders said. “Like that edge that Tom [Brady] had, it gave them the edge that you had, it gave them the edge that I have. Folks said we weren’t gonna be nothing. But we had to prove that. It gave them the edge that they needed. Both of them.”
The rumor that Shedeur Sanders didn’t interview well gained traction after an anonymous NFL assistant coach told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that Sanders’ interview was one of the worst he’s ever seen. Additionally, Todd McShay of The Ringer reported that Sanders’ pre-draft interview with the New York Giants went south after he took offense to criticism.
“Shedeur didn’t have a great interview with [New York Giants head coach] Brian Daboll in a private visit,” McShay said. “An install package came in. Preparation wasn’t there for it. [He] got called out on it. Didn’t like that. Brian didn’t appreciate him not liking it.”

Daboll wouldn’t provide any details after the draft when asked about Sanders’ interview with him. Nonetheless, Deion Sanders was quick to shoot down some of the rumors about Shedeur that have floated online.
“When you sit up there and say something like he went into a meeting unprepared, like, dude,” Deion Sanders said on the podcast. “Shedeur Sanders? Who has had six different [offensive] coordinators, who has still functioned and leveled up every time we brought somebody new in, and you’re going to tell me he was unprepared?
“You’re going to tell me he had on headphones? Anybody who knows my son understands he’s a professional. He’s going to go into a meeting with headphones on? Y’all, come on now.”
