During last night’s game at PNC Park, a fan fell from the stands onto the field and had to receive medical attention. Pittsburgh authorities have released the latest status of the fan this morning.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, the man remains in “critical condition” at the hospital after the fall. However, personnel are treating this incident as an accident with no further updates expected to come from the police department.

“UPDATE: This incident is being treated as accidental in nature. The patient remains in critical condition at the hospital,” the account tweeted on Thursday morning. “Pittsburgh Police do not anticipate providing any additional updates to the public.”

This comes 12 hours after the Pittsburgh Pirates released their own statement on the incident. Their update at the time was straightforward following the fall during the seventh inning last night.

“Tonight, during the seventh inning of the game at PNC Park, an adult male fell from the right field bleachers onto the field of play,” the statement read. “Pittsburgh EMS, as well as the Pirates and Cubs athletic training teams and other PNC Park personnel reacted and responded immediately and administered care. He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital. No further information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.”

This happened during the second game of the series, which ended in a 4-3 win for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The rubber match is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. EST today.

Fan stretchered off after scary fall over outfield wall

A fan left Wednesday’s game between the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates on a stretcher after an apparent fall in the bottom of the seventh inning. Play stopped during a pitching change and players from both teams looked visibly concerned.

The incident occurred as the Pirates re-took the lead over the Cubs on a ground ball to shortstop. Dansby Swanson deflected it into short right field, and two Pittsburgh runs scored to make it a 4-3 ballgame. Shortly after, managers from both teams came onto the field, and players expressed concern about what had just happened.

The Cubs broadcast feed did not show the fan or what happened, but a clip of the accident has been circulating on social media. Play-by-play announcer Alex Cohen, though, said the fan was in right-center field and left via a stretcher.

“Right now, a fan in right-center field has been put on a stretcher,” Cohen said amid the delay. “They are taking the fan off the field. Emergency personnel quick to the scene.”
