GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The college baseball transfer portal opened the week and the Florida Gators have lost their first player from the 2025 roster. Sophomore left-handed pitcher Jacob Gomberg has entered the transfer portal.

He becomes the third pitcher that UF is expected to lose from this year’s team, along with LHP Pierce Coppola and RHP Billy Barlow, both of whom participated in the Senior Day ceremony in Florida’s final home game vs. Alabama.

Gomberg made three appearances in 2025 against Miami, Georgia and Vanderbilt, throwing a total of 1.0 inning. He gave up eight hits, seven runs and two walks with one strikeout and a 63.00 ERA.

Gomberg pitched in one game out of the UF bullpen as a true freshman. He made his collegiate debut in the victory over Columbia on Feb. 25 and struck out two batters.

Gomberg missed majority of the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He finished with an 18.00 ERA, three walks and two strikeouts in one inning of work.

UF can return up 18 pitchers in 2026, although it could have some more attrition: starters Liam Peterson (Jr.) and Aidan King (So.), redshirt junior Jake Clemente, juniors Luke McNeillie, Alex Philpott, Frank Menendez (LHP) and Matthew Jenkins, redshirt sophomores Christian Rodriguez, Caden McDonald and Mason Laurito (LHP), sophomores Jackson Barberi, McCall Biemiller (LHP), Niko Janssens (LHP), Felix Ong, Blaine Rowland and Carson Montsdeoca and redshirt freshman Schuyler Sandford and Joshua Whritenour.
